So I'm interested in getting one. So someone point me in the right direction please :) Was thinking of starting at deja vu next time im in there? How much are they overseas and all that cause if a mate of mine buys a car in the states he'll let me put it in his container and shit but thats not set in concrete if and when he gets another car so yeah, suggestions would be excellent.

Ive also got a mate that reckons he can set one up for me for about $900 but when i think about it, he doesnt wakeskate so he probably wont understand what would be prefereed setup wise and all that so im thinking of just shelling out extra and getting a decent one with a possible warranty and all that.

Just make it mate...
They are so simple, its not funny. No need for a warranty.
The motor you buy for it will have a warranty tho, so you're good for that...
Speak to mates who work in trades like fitting/turning or in manufacturing joints. You'll be surprised how many of your mates have access to the things you'll need from their work for next to nothing. Bearings, jack shafts/axles, nuts/bolts etc. All the ingredients for a winch is very standard issue in the trades/manufacturing industries.
The only bits you'll source outside of this is the torque converter, the winch rope and handle, plus some roller chain and a sprocket+holder. No bull.

Steel is cheap as anything for a winch frame, plus you can pick up a stick welder for $100 bux - welding is fun to learn and ain't hard with a stick welder.
Chinese import motors are dirt cheap now, you can pick up a 6.5 horse for $150-$200, or an 8-9 horse for $250-$350.
I've got a 9hp honda clone thats caused no trouble over the last three years. Pulls like a truck. A very smooth truck.
And your local mower joint will get original honda parts cheap as such as carbies etc, which is really the only thing that'll stuff up...
Built it, its easy and fun, and pull the same as a bought one, but with a lot more steez...

dont buy one lael!!! u will regret it, if u bought one, u would wana use it everyday of ur life to get the moneys worth, so yer if u think u wille actually use it, deff build one! we are halfway through a build now, pretty easy ay. but yer are u plannin on hittin sum gaps n rails r ya???
I've been looking into it a little. You can get them imported from the states but shipping is like $600. Was looking at the ben horan 7hp pro model by ridiculous winches and was gonna cost about $3500 to get over here then prob have to pay import tax n shit. The urban rider winches retail here for about 3-4k I think but it's hard to find a retailer anywhere here, Deja vu don't stock them anymore for some reason. Havnt really looked into building one though, can't really be bothered haha it's probably pretty easy/cheap though like the other boys are sayin. Depends on ur budget and if u can be bothered building one
Yeah im kinda with alistair, just cant be fucked and dont really have the time to do it nowadays :( But yeah I just keep seeing so many potential spots where it would be just so fucking awesome to skate in.

Just also thought id throw in my mates idea for a winch build.
He was saying he'd use a 70cc motorbike engine, use all the stock stuff like brakes, clutch etc, and use a wheel hub for the winch? I think theres away around getting rid of the clutch too...guess you could find like a 1 speed chilli 50 or something... Ive never heard of this being done before though...any reason for that?
yeahh its been done, but itd be shit, not consistent, and a bitch to drive ay

hey mate did you end up buying a winch? I'm still keen as to get one, still leaning towards a 6.5hp Ridiculous winch (http://www.ridiculouswinches.com/ben-horan-65-pro-model.html)- just looks so fucking good haha and pretty sure i'd fuck something up if I tried building one and it would turn out shit. I was looking at the customs duties and taxes page (http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5549.asp) and think its gonna cost an extra $450 for that shit cos its an item over $1000. So I'm looking at about $2500 for the winch + $600 for shipping (still have to pick it up from the nearest airport) + around $450 for import tax, so looking at around $3600 in total which is quite a bit ey.

After writing this i'm leaning towards building one again haha but it seems too much effort. Let us know what you ended up doing man.
